Mink Mountain Lookout: Towards the US border in the municipality of Neebing, cliffs line the shores of Lake Superior. With a vast trail network this location offers something for everyone! This trail is a consistent incline until you get to the top of Mink Mountain but the work is worth the reward! You will climb 600 feet above Lake Superior where you can see the full length of Michigan’s Isle Royale, along with the many islands of our north shore. As the trail winds around the cliff edge to the Northwest, spectacular vistas of Sturgeon Bay and rugged Pie Island will unfold! Loop: On this extended Mink Mountain adventure we will continue hiking towards Sturgeon Bay for additional views of the opposing cliffs along the bay. This will be a loop trail around the top of Mink Mountain called ‘The Upper Lakewalk Trail’ & ‘Valleywalk Trail’, bringing you back to the original trail we use to climb up the mountain.
Dorion Tower Lookout: This stunning rock pillar can be found 45 minutes East of Thunder Bay in the township of Dorion, and doubles as a popular rock climbing destination. With the access road not being well maintained, a 4×4 or high clearance vehicle is needed to get to the parking spot. The hike in from the parking spot is an intermediate trail that ends at a cliffside with multiple stunning panoramic lookouts. We often align this outing with one of our Dorion Tower rock climbing adventures so you could get the opportunity to watch climbers scale the tower as an added bonus! Down the Canyon: Helmets on beyond the Lookout for this extended adventure, and down into the canyon we will go! Follow your guide through the maze of boulders and cliffs all the way to the tower itself. Close-toed shoes required, hiking shoes preferred and highly recommended.
The Sleeping Giant: This location an hour East of Thunder Bay offers a wide range of options for outdoor exploration with its vast gorgeous trail networks that are well maintained. It caters to those who are beginners or have children with spots like the iconic Sea Lion trail, the nature interpretation trail, the Thunder Bay lookout, beautiful beaches, and so much more. Top of the Giant: If you’re an avid hiker who wants a full day challenge, hiking to the top of the giant is an experience that will last you a lifetime! Available to be reserved as a private outing, the iconic cliff gorge overlooking Lake Superior does not disappoint.
